DEFINITION (direct answer for featured snippet)
========================================================= –>
What is a specialist deep tissue massage?
It is a therapeutic deep tissue massage that releases chronic or recurring muscle knots. It starts with an assessment of your posture and areas of tension, and treats not just the spot that hurts but the muscles causing it.
A standard massage brings relief. This one aims to stop the tension from coming back. That is why at Aurum, our centre in Barcelona, it is only performed by Rudy, the founder of the centre, and Mauricio: they have the most hours of deep bodywork on the team and are best at reading how tension links up across the body.
You feel the difference in the hands: more precise pressure, more time spent on each layer of muscle, and a session that adapts to how your body responds rather than following a fixed routine.

AREAS / SIGNS
========================================================= –>
Does any of this sound familiar?
These are the cases we see most often on the table, and where this massage makes a real difference.
Tight neck and shoulders
Shoulders creeping up towards your ears, a stiff neck by the end of the day, or tension headaches after long hours at a screen.
Lower back and glutes
That ache that shows up when you stand up from your chair or after a day on your feet. The source is often in the glutes and hips.
The knot that always comes back
If other massages help for a couple of days and then it all returns, the symptom is probably being treated rather than the pattern of tension.
Upper and mid back
Knots between the shoulder blades, a closed-in chest and shallow breathing from a hunched posture held over time.
Sport and training overload
Legs, back or shoulders worn out by running, strength training, padel or cycling, and in need of a proper release.
Stress that stays in the body
A clenched jaw, hard shoulders and a body that never fully lets go, even when you rest.

Founder of Aurum Wellbeing
Rudy founded Aurum in 2016 and has combined deep manual work with a whole-person approach ever since. He sees muscle tension as something that builds up through posture, habits and stress, and works on it from there.

Mauricio
Senior therapist at Aurum
The team’s specialist in deep bodywork. Firm, precise hands, with the sensitivity to know when to stay on an area and when to let the muscle release on its own.

THE SESSION (real sequence)
========================================================= –>
What a session looks like
I
Listening and assessment
We talk about where you feel the tension, how long it has been there and what makes it worse. We look at your posture and feel the tight areas before we begin.
II
Preparing the tissue
We warm up and loosen the surface muscles, so the deep work is more effective and much more comfortable.
III
Deep work
Sustained pressure, friction and work on specific trigger points, following the chain of muscles involved. We adjust the intensity with you throughout.
IV
Integration and advice
We finish with gentle strokes so your body can absorb the work, and you leave with simple tips to make the improvement last.

Getting the most out of it
Before
Arrive a few minutes early so the assessment isn’t rushed. Avoid a heavy meal just beforehand. If you have an injury, recent surgery or are pregnant, let us know when you book.
After
Drink water and give yourself some quiet time. It’s normal to feel the treated area for a day or two, much like after a good workout. Avoid intense exercise on the same day.

FAQ
========================================================= –>
Deep tissue massage in Barcelona: FAQs
How is it different from a regular deep tissue massage?
In many places, deep tissue simply means firmer pressure. Ours is only performed by Rudy and Mauricio, starts with an assessment of your posture and areas of tension, and follows the chain of muscles behind the knot. It is designed for chronic or recurring tension, not just a stronger massage.
Is it a sports massage?
It works very well for sports overload, from running and padel to strength training, but it isn’t limited to athletes. Most of our clients come with tension from desk work, stress or posture.
Does it hurt?
You will feel some intensity in the tightest areas, but always within what your body can take. A muscle that is guarding won’t let go, so we adjust the pressure with you throughout the session.
Which length should I choose?
30 minutes for one very specific area. 45 minutes for two connected areas. 60 minutes if the tension affects your back, neck and shoulders, which is the option we recommend most. 90 minutes to work on the whole body without rushing.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on how long the tension has been there. Many people notice a clear change from the first session. For long-standing tension we usually recommend a few closer sessions at the start, then spacing them out.
How do I find it when booking online?
Our booking system is in Spanish, so this massage appears as Masaje descontracturante especializado. Choose that service, then pick Rudy or Mauricio and the length you want.
Can I choose between Rudy and Mauricio?
Yes. When you book online you can choose your therapist based on availability, or message us on WhatsApp at +34 664 477 019 and we’ll find you a slot.
Do you speak English?
Yes, you can book, ask questions and have your session in English.
Where are you?
At Carrer de Casanova 18, in Sant Antoni (Eixample), a short walk from Urgell metro station (L1) and Plaça Universitat.
Does it replace a physiotherapist or a doctor?
No. It is a wellbeing massage to release muscle tension. If you have an injury, sharp pain with no clear cause, inflammation or a fever, check with your doctor or physiotherapist first.
